Rare, antique NOS, New Old Stock OES Order of the Eastern Star Mason key chain fob. These date back to the late 1800's early 1900's. They were used as keychain fobs, key tags, identification tags, luggage and trunk tags, dog tags. Soldiers often used these on their lockers and trunks.
History Lesson
The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic appendant body open to both men and women. It was established in 1850 by lawyer and educator Rob Morris, a noted Freemason, but was only adopted and approved as an appendant body of the Masonic Fraternity in 1873. The order is based on teachings from the Bible, but is open to people of all religious beliefs. It has approximately 10,000 chapters in twenty countries and approximately 500,000 members under its General Grand Chapter. - Thanks WIKI! (They really deserve donations.)
These beautiful antique dog tags / trunk tags/ key chain fobs are made out of nickel-silver also called German silver. Nickel silver is stronger and more expensive than brass. And, it doesn't tarnish like brass. Back then manufacturers chose nickel-silver over brass for higher quality items like these keychain fobs.
These have been in storage for decades and they look gorgeous! Resemble sterling silver. Perfect for stamping and engraving.
These are NOT replicas, reproductions or "style of" . They were part of an enormous Dallas locksmith collection with items dating back to the Civil War era.
