    DEFUND THE THOUGHT POLICE
    Protest 1984 Button
A 1.25 inch (3.175 centimeter) button with a slogan evoking both 1984 and the 2020 anti-police protest movement, Defund the Thought Police.
Nineteen Eighty-Four, often published as 1984, is a dystopian novel published in 1949 by English author George Orwell. The Thought Police (Thinkpol) are the secret police of the superstate Oceania, who discover and punish thoughtcrime, personal and political thoughts unapproved by the government.
"Defund the police" is a slogan that supports divesting funds from police departments and reallocating them to non-policing forms of public safety and community support. Police abolitionists call for replacing existing police forces with other systems of public safety, like housing, employment, community health, education, and other programs. The slogan was used by many protest movements during the anti-police demonstrations nationwide in the summer of 2020.
If you think that 2021 is the new 1984, maybe think about what sort of police really need to have their budgets cut.
