Metamorphosis (The Substitution Trunk)When Houdini and his wife Bessie went on in the road in 1894, they featured his first illusion called "Metamorphosis." It was this trick that gained the Houdini's their first big tour with the Welsh Brothers Circus in 1895. In this trick, Houdini's hands would be fastened behind his back as he was placed inside a large bag which was knotted closed. He was then placed inside a large box, which was locked and strapped closed. The box is then placed inside a cabinet. Mrs. Houdini would then draw the curtain closed and clap three times. At the third clap, Houdini himself would draw open the curtain and Mrs. Houdini would be gone. When the box is opened, Mrs. Houdini is found inside the bag with the knots and seals unbroken and her hands secured in exactly the same way as her husband's.
This is the illusion that helped cement Houdini as a household name. The Substitution Trunk that we are selling will pass a rigorous inspection. The magician displays a large packing box. Volunteers from the audience can assist the magician by moving the trunk in place, opening the hinged lid, and giving the trunk a thorough inspection. Next the magician displays a pair of handcuffs or other wrist restraint device (NOT INCLUDED), and a cloth bag (NOT INCLUDED). The magician’s assistant enters the trunk and then is handcuffed. Next she enters the bag and one of the volunteers tie the bag closed with a piece of rope. The assistant bends down inside the box, the lid is closed, the two hasps are clamped, and the trunk is locked tight with padlocks (NOT INCLUDED). Next the magician hops up on top of the trunk and raises a tubular curtain. On the simple count of three, the curtain is dropped and the assistant is now standing on top of the trunk! The trunk is opened and the magician is found handcuffed inside the cloth bag and trunk. This illusion will get the crowd on its feet and ALWAYS gets a standing ovation.
Many Illusionists have been performing this illusion since Houdini first performed it in 1894. Why? Because it is a powerful illusion that will help get the audience talking about your performance and in turn get you more gigs.
The trunk is designed to come apart for packing, although many magicians use the trunk to actually transport other magic props they use in their act. The only tools needed to take the trunk apart are the supplied nut driver. This is a beautiful prop that could easily be used as a coffee table in the living room.
If you are tired of being considered another card trick magician. If you want to step into the big leagues if you want to be able to charge more per performance. Than this illusion is for you it will pay for itself after your first paid gig right in time for the summer.
Good luck!
