In February 2021, the New York Times published an op-ed “How the Biden Administration Can Help Solve Our Reality Crisis.” The author said, ” … I worry that unless the Biden administration treats conspiracy theories and disinformation as the urgent threats they are, our parallel universes will only drift further apart… Several experts I spoke with recommended that the Biden administration put together a cross-agency task force to tackle disinformation and domestic extremism, which would be led by something like a “reality czar.” It sounds a little dystopian, I’ll grant.”
Parallel universes? Reality czar? Only a little?
The article also claims that the task force and its Czar should be allow to harvest data about ‘conspiracy theory communities’ without running afoul of those pesky privacy laws.
The Internet, quite rightly, saw this as a hilarious yet frightening overstepping of boundaries, and asked if the Czar would be part of the soon-to-be-created Ministry of Trust (MiniTru for short). Thanos was also put forward as a possible Czar, for does he not wield the Reality Stone in the Infinity Gauntlet?
