    Description

Vintage McChesney Texas Style German Silver and Copper Mounted Swan Neck Spurs
    Description
This is a pair of lightly rusted pre owned black steel
McChesney style one piece Texas spurs with engraved German Silver and copper trim.  These antiqued spurs have a 2-1/4 inch long "Swan Neck" style shank, a 1/2 inch wide band and a 10 point brass rowel.
The spurs are unmarked but are created in the style of McChesney Spurs made in Oklahoma about 100 ytears ago.
J.R. McChesney was probably the biggest name in the production of antique Texas style bits and spurs.  His shop was the largest west of the Mississippi for a period of time and he employed many other famous makers at one time or another.  It is said that McChesney was the first to make one piece spurs from metal taken off farm equipment and axles.  The one-piece spur quickly became the predominant style in Texas as the spurs were strong and durable without a joint that had the potential to fail between the heel band and shank.  McChesney is probably most famous for his gal-leg design which some people claim he invented, though most historians dispute that fact.
